2023-2024 K-12 Schools COVID Protocols

As the new school year gets underway we want to make sure families are aware of the most recent COVID safety protocols.  As has been the case throughout the pandemic the District continues to follow health agency guidelines.

If your student has been exposed to a COVID positive case or you think they’ve been exposed but they have not developed symptoms, here are the K-12 school guidelines, regardless of vaccination status:

  • Have student continue attending school
  • Monitor for symptoms associated with COVID
  • Test student 3-5 days after exposure to COVID. (consider re-testing 24-48 hours after first test)
  • Recommend student wear a mask for 10-days after exposure when around others indoors

If your student has been exposed to a COVID positive case and develop symptoms or you don't know if your student has been exposed and they develop symptoms, here are the guidelines regardless of vaccination status:

  • Stay home from school.
  • Test immediately for COVID

If they test NEGATIVE for COVID:

  • Consider re-testing every 24-48 hours through at least 5-days from the onset of symptoms
  • Have student wear a mask while around others while sick or through 10 days after exposure (whichever is longer)
  • Return student to school as soon after the symptoms improve significantly and they do not have a fever within the past 24 hours of returning without the use of fever reducing medication.

If they test POSITIVE they can return to school after five days have passed since symptoms appeared if their symptoms have significantly improved and they have not had a fever within the past 24 hours of returning without the use of fever reducing medication. When the student has improved and able to resume normal activities based on the guidance above, it is recommended they wear a mask around others and in public for at least 5-days.
